Jervis Inlet Power Line Removal and Marine Traffic Closure – Update

Jervis Inlet Power Line Removal and Marine Traffic Closure

Good afternoon,

I’m pleased to provide an update on the Jervis Inlet and Agamemnon Channel Power Line Replacement Project, including the confirmed schedule for transmission line removal over Jervis Inlet, the dates of the marine traffic closure, and information about the Sunshine Coast Trail closures that are required to ensure public and crew safety while we complete this critical work.

Schedule for Jervis Inlet power line removal

The 138 kilovolt (kV) transmission line crossing Jervis Inlet is scheduled for removal from Tuesday, October 14 to Friday, October 17. Contingency dates are from Saturday, October 18 to Sunday, October 26.

Marine traffic closures

A marine traffic closure will be in place from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily while the power line removal work is underway to ensure public and crew safety.

Access to Jervis Inlet

During the closure, a marine route around Nelson Island will remain available to access the wider Jervis Inlet.

Boater safety during closures

Pilot boats will be stationed on both sides of the marine crossing to alert boaters who may not be aware of the closure.

Communications protocol

A communications protocol will be in place during the marine traffic closure to ensure local marine users are informed about navigation restrictions. We’ll also share status updates regularly while work is underway. Further details will be provided in early October.

BC Ferries – Saltery Bay to Earls Cove Route

To maintain essential service and community connectivity during the marine traffic closure in Jervis Inlet, BC Ferries will reroute sailings around Nelson Island. Updated schedules will be posted at bcferries.com, and they will share the information with service notice subscribers once the updated schedule is available. BC Ferries expects to post the updated schedule and issue a service notice by Friday, September 26.

To subscribe to BC Ferries service notices:

  1. Log in or create an account at bcferries.com.
  2. Go to “My Subscriptions.”
  3. Open the “Service Notices” dropdown.
  4. Subscribe to Saltery Bay–Earls Cove alerts.

Detailed instructions are available at https://www.bcferries.com/current-conditions/service-notices.

Sunshine Coast Trail closures

Sunshine Coast Trail closures will be in effect from September 29, 2025, to January 31, 2026, to support access road construction, tree clearing, and removal of the 138 kV power line.  These closures are necessary to ensure the safety of the public and our crews. An alternate route will be available at all times via the Saltery Bay Branch 01 FSR to Rainy Day Lake as well as the upper trail to Elephant Lake and Lois Lake.

Updated project schedule

The updated project schedule is as follows:

  • October 14–17, 2025: Removal of the 138 kV line and aviation marker balls across Jervis Inlet.
  • October 18–26, 2025: Contingency dates for line removal.
  • Spring 2026: Removal and restringing of the 138 kV line across Agamemnon Channel, upgraded to 230 kV standards.
  • Fall 2026 or Spring 2027: Restringing of the line across Jervis Inlet, upgraded to 230 kV standards.
  • Future Improvements: Replacement of adjacent 230 kV lines and aviation marker balls at both crossings.

Keeping you informed

We will continue to provide regular updates on the project and share details about the daily communications protocol in early October. Additional information is available at bchydro.com/jervisagamemnon.
